Tesla acknowledged that the increased automation of the Model 3 has caused major delays, but said that any new manufacturing process will face challenges, so Tesla is no exception.
Tesla has just stated clearly that the robot will be the key to the company's future, although automation has led to the production of the Model 3.
In April, Tesla’s chief executive Elon Musk spoke with CBS about the production bottleneck that Tesla encountered after launching the popular version of Model 3 in July last year. In the interview, the moderator mentioned that the company was criticized for using too much automated equipment to produce cars at the Fremont plant in California. Musk responded: “Yes, I agree with this view. ”
Previously, Max Warburton and Toni Sacconaghi, automotive analysts at Bernstein Research, pointed out that over-automation is the culprit in the mass production of Model 3. Analysts pointed out that the innovation and competitive advantage that Marsk said — his almost-automated factory implemented at the Fremont plant in California — is why Tesla cannot expand rapidly. These robots could not quickly produce the high-yielding Model 3 that Tesla had placed on them. The entire automation process is too ambitious, risky and complex.
When Musk responded to the Wall Street Journal reporter on Twitter, he wrote: "Yes, Tesla's over-automation is a mistake. It's my fault. It's human being underestimated!"
However, in the first quarter earnings report, Tesla noted that it is still betting on automated production.
“We have talked in detail about 'robot manufacturing models' and why it is so important to the long-term success of Tesla. Fundamentally speaking, we think that looking at a factory with the people’s perception of the product itself may be Every step in the process becomes more creative, which will bring huge benefits to quality, cost, efficiency and employee safety.”
Tesla said: "Based on every measurable indicator, the Model 3 is already the highest quality car we have produced, which is largely due to automation."
Tesla acknowledged that the increased automation of the Model 3 has caused major delays, but said that any new manufacturing process will face challenges, so Tesla is no exception.
“In the manufacturing process, a step change is not without challenges, especially in the early process, but we made a mistake that too much automation was added too quickly,” Tesla said.
Tesla added that it temporarily reduced the degree of automation of the use of battery modules and material flow in the production process.
